The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine has invited submissions on the future of the beef sector in the context of FoodWise 2025.

Brexit, climate change and the new CAP will all impact the beef sector in Ireland and stakeholders or interested parties are invited submissions before the deadline on 21 March.

There has been much discussion in the farm community about the impact of the expanding national dairy herd on the national suckler herd and the impact of dairy beef.

FoodWise 2025

In the context of FoodWise 2025 the Committee is interested in looking at analysis carried out by the Department of Agriculture, which includes reviewing the impact of dairy beef on the Irish beef sector and establishing a meat technology centre.

The analysis also hopes that up to 5,000 beef farmers will take part in grass measuring by 2025, which would mark a 75% increase from current numbers.
