Earlier this spring, we visited From the Tramlines farmer Simon Best when he was finishing sowing the last of his Elyann spring oats.
Simon grows winter and spring oats for Armagh-based Whites Oats.
Earlier this spring, he took delivery of a new 4m Horsch Express KR drill.
As his spring beans were already drilled by the time the drill arrived, he moved straight on to spring oats.
The Express KR drill has a front-mounted hopper with press wheel.
Power harrow
The mounted drill is equipped with a power harrow and roller and the seed is piped through two pipes to the 24 TurboDisc seed coulters.
When we visited Simon, he was finishing sowing ground which was recently used as part of an environmental scheme.
The ground was hilly with multiple hollows and stoney patches.
The drill was put through its paces, but handled the conditions with ease.
