It is vital that every cent of the €100m Brexit support package agreed in Brussels for beef farmers goes directly to farmers, IFA national livestock chair Angus Woods has said.
Woods is due to meet with European Commission officials and members of European Commissioner for Agriculture Phil Hogan’s cabinet on Thursday to work through some of the details on the aid package.

IFA president Joe Healy said: “Beef farmers have suffered savage price losses due to Brexit uncertainty and it is a welcome development that the European Commission has recognised this and responded to the IFA proposal”.
The deal will see the European Commission provide €50m for an aid fund and the Irish Government is expected to match this with €50m of State funding, to bring the total fund for beef farmers to €100m.
The funding package is based on an IFA submission to Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed and Commissioner Hogan that detailed losses of €101m by beef farmers.
