A JCB that was stolen from Ballymahon in Co Longford earlier this month has been recovered near Hamburg in Germany. The machine has since been returned to its owner, Mike Mulleady.

Speaking to Shannonside, Mulleady said it was great to see it back on site. He stressed that it would not have been possible to recover the machine without a tracker.

“We would have never gotten this machine back only for the tracker and that’s the bottom line. It’s great to have it back because the machine was worth a lot of money you’re talking maybe €50,000,” Mulleady said.

Tracker

The JCB was stolen on 13 May and when the tracker was first activated it showed the machine at Dublin Port. From there it was followed along its journey from Dublin to Rotterdam and then on to Germany, where it was recovered - a journey of over 1,600km.

Mulleady praised the work of the gardaí and Interpol and urged owners of plant machinery to install trackers .
