Camera at the Mart attended the weekly cattle sale in Saintfield Mart last week. A solid entry of cattle was met with sharp buying demand across all classes of stock.

Commenting on the sale, mart manager Geoffrey Murphy said that numbers are holding up well given the time of year.

This 2016-born Limousin cow and August 2018-born heifer calf sold for £1,600.

He added that there has been no drop-off in buying demand, which has helped to maintain prices, especially on better-quality animals.

Fat cows were a great trade, with 75 animals forwarded selling to a top price of £1,313 for a 1,010kg Charolais, or 130p/kg.

This Charolais heifer, weighing 480kg and born May 2017, sold for £854.

Other noted prices saw Limousin cows selling for £1,033 for a 650kg animal, with a 690kg cow making £1,000.

Angus cows sold to £1,203 for a 940kg animal with a 680kg animal making £980. Holstein cows sold to £1,018 for a heavy fleshed 760kg animal, with a general price range of 130p/kg on offer for slaughter-fit types.

This 2013-born Limousin cow and May 2019-born heifer calf sold for £2,000.

Friesian types sold from 120p to 140p/kg, with a 740kg animal making £984 and a 670kg animal making £944.

Suckler outfits were also a sharp trade, with a top price of £2,000 paid for a May 2013-born Limousin cow with a May 2019-born heifer calf at foot. Other Limousin outfits sold from £1,500 to £1,700.

This Limousin bullock, weighing 320kg and born August 2018, sold for £760.

Demand for bullocks was firm across 100 animals forwarded and prices reached a peak of £1,160 for a 600kg Angus animal. Another Angus bullock weighing 600kg sold to £1,140, with other lots weighing 470kg to 600kg selling from £940 to £1,120.

Hereford bullocks weighing 600kg to 650kg sold from £1,050 to £1,150. Continental bullocks sold to £1,100 for a 500kg Charolais. Other Charolais lots at similar weights sold upwards from £1,000.

This Limousin bullock, weighing 370kg and born September 2018, sold for £825.

Limousin bullocks weighing 300kg to 440kg sold from £800 to £930.

A smaller entry of heifers sold to £1,150 for a 510kg Charolais, with similar types making £1,005 to £1,105.

Limousin heifers sold from £980 to £1,040 for cattle weighing 480kg to 500kg. Angus heifers weighing 500kg to 520kg sold from £980 to £1,020.

This Charolais bullock, weighing 470kg and born April 2018, sold for £810.

Drop calves sold to a top price of £390 for a Limousin bull calf, with heifer calves making £285. Angus bulls peaked at £340. Hereford bulls sold to £260, with heifers making £240.

This Belgian Blue heifer, weighing 410kg and born July 2018, sold for £655.

This Limousin bullock, weighing 520kg and born December 2017, sold for £950.

This Charolais heifer, weighing 390kg and born June 2018, sold for £740.

This Limousin heifer, weighing 280kg and born August 2018, sold for £680.

This Limousin cow, weighing 680kg and born April 2019, sold for £870.
