More than 50 entries have been put forward for the 2019 An Tóstál Stylish Silage competition.

The Drumshanbo event, sponsored by McHale, has €2,400 up for grabs.

There are three categories:

  • Family: sponsored by McHale, with a top prize of €300 cash and a €200 voucher.
  • Community/club: sponsored by the Irish Farmers Journal, with a top prize of €500.
  • Commercial: sponsored by Shannon Valley Group, with a top prize of €250 cash.
  • In addition, Mulveys Homevalue in Drumshanbo is sponsoring €150 cash for three special prizes:

  • €50 for the funniest bale.
  • €50 for the most topical bale.
  • €50 for the most outrageous bale.
  • All bales have to be finished this Saturday 29 June at 12pm.

    Judging will be undertaken by regular judge Patrick Donohoe, Leitrim Macra chair Ailish Connolly and Dave Dukes from iRadio.

    The winners will be announced at the Stylish Silage Wrap Party in the Lough Allen Hotel, Drumshanbo on Saturday night 6 July.

    Festival

    The 2019 An Tóstál Festival opens on Sunday 30 June at 4pm with music and a parade.

    The week’s festivities include a charity walk, table quiz, food and crafts showcases, fishing and water activities.

    For kids, the week’s entertainment includes an art camp, bingo and a cinema by the lake.
