The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) should make a decision on planning applications to allow farmers that are stuck in the process to move on, Ulster Farmers’ Union (UFU) president Ivor Ferguson has said.
“Farmers across NI have spent thousands on planning only for DAERA to stall the procedure because they can’t make up their mind on a planning policy that will support the reduction of ammonia emissions,” Ferguson said.
The UFU president said that the criteria that farmers must fulfil to get planning permission keeps changing: “For some, years have gone by and they are still no further forward.”
