Gardaí are at the scene of an incident outside ABP in Cahir, Co Tipperary, in which a Beef Plan Movement protester was injured.

Joe Trehy, chair of the Beef Plan Movement in Tipperary, has been taken by ambulance to Clonmel hospital.

The incident involved Trehy and another man driving a jeep and trailer and occurred at the entrance to the factory where Beef Plan Movement members and farmers have been protesting since Monday.

A Garda spokesman said the man was conscious and breathing and complaining of back and neck injuries.

Multiple gardaí and ambulance personnel, as well as the local GP, attended the scene.

Unfortunate

Dermot O’Brien, chair of the southwest region of the Beef Plan Movement, was at ABP at the time.

He told the Irish Farmers Journal: “It is very unfortunate that this happened during a peaceful protest.

“If farmers were getting a fair price for their cattle, incidents like this would not happen. Farmers are being propelled into a situation where they are angry and frustrated.”

“Farmers should not be passing the picket out of respect for their fellow farmers,” he added. “Farmers should stand in solidarity with each other, now more than ever.”
