Over half of dairy farmers are interested in planting forestry, according to a recent survey carried out at the Irish Grassland Association (IGA) Dairy Summer Tour.

Some 141 dairy farmers took part in the IGA survey, run in conjunction with AIB. The survey also found that over 75% of the farmers were interested in introducing renewable energy sources, while over 85% already used LESS.

Commenting on the results, head of agriculture at AIB Tadgh Buckley said that farmers often felt “bombarded” with messages on sustainability, but were obviously keen to take on board climate-friendly actions.

Results also found that larger-scale operators applied a higher number of sustainability measures.
