Boortmalt has launched an investigation into the partial collapse of a building on Tuesday 30 July at its Athy malting facility. In a statement to the Irish Farmers Journal, the company said: “We can confirm that there was an incident at our malting facility in Athy, Co Kildare, when a building on site used in steeping process suffered a partial collapse”.
No member of staff was hurt in the incident but the reasons for the collapse are still unknown. Production will continue at the Athy plant.
