A Bulgarian woman is being mooted as the next European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, taking over from Phil Hogan.
According to Agra Facts, Mariya Gabriel, a member of the GERB political party which is part of the European People's Party (EPP), has been tipped for the job.
Gabriel has held the Digital Economy and Society portfolio for the last two years. Between 2014 and 2017, she was vice-president of the EPP Group in the European Parliament and sat on the Parliament’s agriculture committee.

The other name rumoured to be in the running for the agriculture portfolio, according to Agra Facts, is Poland’s Krzysztof Szczerski. He has previously worked as secretary of state for foreign policy.
Hogan
Current Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan received support from the Irish Government in July to stay on in Brussels for another term.
The thinking is that he may secure one of the vice-presidencies and one of the big portfolios, such as trade.
