The depressed beef market is helping the trade for store lambs.
Farm-gate factory prices have been running 10c/kg to 15c/kg behind 2018 levels in recent weeks, which has slightly tempered demand and prices paid. Despite this, some store producers see lambs as a safer prospect with the risk of a no-deal growing. The trade has also been helped by strong grass supplies.
Prices for lowland store lambs range from €2.05/kg to €2.20/kg on average, while Scotch store lambs are selling from €1.70/kg upwards.
