The first Irish beef in China since the lifting of the BSE ban was in the summer of 2018 and there could be beef from the north in that market by the end of this year
Three English factories and one from the north have been cleared to export beef to China
The UK have now been formally cleared to export beef to China with the announcement that four factories have been cleared to commence exports of frozen beef cuts from cattle under 30 months, the same as the Irish approval. It is understood that three of the factories are located in England and one in Northern Ireland, understood to be WD meats in Coleraine, Co Derry.
With African Swine Fever reducing the supply of pig meat as well as the continued year on year growth in demand for beef, there will be huge demand in China for UK and Irish exporters for the foreseeable future.
