An Garda Síochána are reminding farmers to check their gun licences in case they need to be renewed.
Gardaí in Tipperary seized a number of firearms last week because their licences had lapsed.
“Gardaí seized the licensed firearms from three people as their licences had expired. The renewal of a licensed firearm is required every three years by completing a Firearms Renewal Form (FCR) which is then submitted to the owner’s local Garda station,” the gardaí said.

The National Association of Regional Game Councils (NARGC) has estimated that up to 100,000 or half of all licensed guns are used by farmers and landowners.
“The last thing we want is for people’s firearms to be taken from them over forgetting to renew the licence,” the gardaí told the Irish Farmers Journal.
