The Ornua purchase price index (PPI) increased for the month of December to the equivalent of 30.64c/l excluding VAT.

The index for December is 107.7, up from the 106.6 percentage points it registered for November. This is the fourth consecutive rise in the PPI.

The price is based on Ornua’s product purchase mix and assumed costs of 6.5c/l.

“The adjustment in the month reflects higher powder and cheese prices and stable returns for butter,” an Ornua spokesperson said.

The rise in the PPI comes as a number of milk processors plan for board meetings next week to set prices for December supplies. Both Glanbia and Lakeland are due to set their prices next week.
