Glanbia has decided to boost April milk cheques with an unconditional biodiversity bonus of 0.2c/l, including VAT, available on all milk supplied in April for all suppliers. It will cost Glanbia in the region of

€600,000.

Seán Molloy, chief agribusiness growth officer at Glanbia Ireland, said: “We know that our milk suppliers are proud custodians of their natural environment. This payment is a recognition of what is already being achieved on our suppliers’ farms and also to encourage even more progress.”

Glanbia Ireland is encouraging dairy farmers to consider the following measures for their farms:

  • Riparian buffer strips on watercourses.
  • Creating shelter belts and wildlife corridors.
  • Pollinator plots.
  • Planting additional hedgerows and native trees this autumn.
