Fire services in Mayo attended a fire at Western Proteins, the rendering factory owned by Dawn Meats, in Ballyhaunis Co Mayo on Sunday night in which a building was completely gutted.
The Ballyhaunis fire unit was alerted to the incident at 10.49pm on Sunday night and the first fire appliance was in attendance at 10:55pm, a spokesperson for Mayo County Council fire service told the Irish Farmers Journal.
“On arrival, the fire was at an advanced stage and was through the roof of the building.

“Support was immediately called and units from Claremorris and Charlestown responded while the aerial appliance and water tanker from Castlebar were also deployed to the scene.
“The fire was quickly brought under control and was confined to the initial building or production area with the oven on the site and did not spread to adjacent buildings.
“There were no injuries to report but the building containing the fire was completely gutted.”
