Good-quality cows were met with very good trade again in Elphin last night, with the top prices hitting €2.30/kg.
Lower-quality types were back a little on previous weeks, but anything with weight, quality and a level of finish was hitting at least €2/kg.

Northern customers who have been bidding online for the last five to six weeks which has given a boost to the trade.
Heifers also held steady, with a couple of choice heifers weighing around 500kg hitting €3/kg. Weanling heifers also met good demand, with a few very strong online customers pushing ringside bidders to their limits. Good-quality weanling heifers were up at €2.50-€2.80/kg while lesser-quality types were back at €2.20-€2.40/kg.

While the weanling bull numbers were small, lighter calves seem to meet a better trade with a few nice Charolais crosses around 300kg making €800-€900/head.
