Met Éireann has issued a red alert for Co Cork as storm Ellen is set to hit Ireland tonight, 19 August.
The warning is valid between 9pm and midnight as storm Ellen is set to produce a core of very severe and destructive winds in the county.

Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Galway, Mayo, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Waterford. A yellow alert for high winds was issued for all 32 counties earlier on Tuesday.
“Associated heavy rain will also bring a risk of flooding,” Met Éireann warned.
“Due to the combination of storm surge, spring tides and onshore winds, there is a potential risk of coastal flooding.”
‘Exceptional storm’
Local authorities are preparing for storm Ellen, deploying temporary flood defences and putting response staff on standby.
The National Directorate of Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) has said this is an “exceptional storm” for August, people should take account of Met Éireann weather warnings affecting their location.
The NDFEM has also warned of the potential for significant numbers of trees to fall blocking roads and damaging power lines with ESB Networks preparing for significant power outages.
