Efforts by Irish dairy farmers to donate humanitarian aid to Yemen received a boost this week, as more dairy processors signed up to the initiative.
Longford farmer Mike Magan, who is one of the farmers behind the project, says the idea is that every dairy farmer donates the milk of one cow for one day.
“It works out at about €10 for every dairy farmer in the country. This money will be used by the Red Cross to buy humanitarian aid to give to the people of Yemen.

“It is something that will save lives so I think it is really worthwhile doing,” Magan says.
Most of the main milk processors have agreed to take part, with some using an opt-in process while others are using an opt-out process for their suppliers.
More co-ops are meeting to discuss the proposal this week.
