Learning on the job

BBC trainee scheme

The BBC journalism trainee scheme opens for applications every year. It is highly competitive to enter but provides a gold standard training base for aspiring journalists, and provides a guaranteed salary. You do not have to have a third level qualification to enter but some experience is helpful.

Local radio stations/newspapers

A great way to learn on the job is by calling your local radio station or newspaper and asking it they would be willing to give you some experience. You’ll get a feel for a job in media and if it’s for you.

The above are just suggestions and more options can be found online or directly from colleges.
