The Irish Limousin Cattle Society hosted its AGM over Zoom on Wednesday night, which resulted in William Smith being appointed to council.

He was in contest against council member for the last three years Michael Oliver.

The two posted their manifestos online on social media over the past week, which caused quite a stir.

Comments and replies from both real and fake accounts drove people into a frenzy and so it was thought the AGM was going to get heated.

However, this didn’t come to pass, with current president Michael Gunn addressing most concerns, while the other 250-plus registered participants were held on mute.

Smith now takes up the position on council for the next three years.

No stranger to most, William Smith runs the Milbrook herd in Oldcastle, Co Meath, and has won nearly every major accolade over his career.

This isn’t the first time he has had a position on council, having served from 2001 to 2010, which included a term as president.

Michael Oliver congratulated Smith on the appointment and said he would not contest the vote.
