The British Limousin Cattle Society hosted its early spring sale in Carlisle on Saturday, with the excellent demand witnessed earlier in the week at Dungannon continuing.
In total, 10 bulls hit five-figure sums to a top of 42,000gns (£44,100).
Leading the charge were Northern Irish breeders Michael and Kile Diamond with Pointhouse Paul.
This September 2019-born ET bull is out of Goldies Jackpot and the homebred Pointhouse Jewel. Jackpot is resident stock bull at the Baileys herd in Co Meath, while Jewel is a former junior champion at Balmoral Show.
Carrying two copies of the F94L gene, Paul was the choice of the Alford family who run the successful Foxhillfarm herd.
Paul’s ET full-brother Pointhouse Pat sold for 8,500gns.
Two at 30,000gns
The 30,000gns price tag was hit twice. First at the money was one of the earlier bulls into the ring, Cloughhead President from GL Hutton.
Born April 2019, this stylish bull is homebred on both sides and offered somewhat of an outcross pedigree for prospective buyers.
This topped an impressive day for Hutton, who also sold Cloughhead Patrick at 25,000gns. This June 2019-born bull again offered an outcross pedigree, sired by Twemlows Morpeth and out of a Gultime-bred dam.
Securing the second 30,000gns price tag was Goldies Positive from Messrs Bruce. The Goldies herd also topped last year’s sale with two bulls making 30,000gns each. Those two bulls, Goldies Olympia and Goldies Owain, were sired by Ampertaine Foreman and stand as two full-brothers to the dam of Goldies Positive, Goldies Lisette. Sire of Positive was the homebred Goldies Nimble who goes back to Ampertaine Gigolo.
Goldies Pilot
Second highest of the Bruce family entry was Goldies Pilot, which sold for 19,000gns. This June 2019-born bull was homebred on both sides, with Wilodge Vantastic, Cerberus and Nenuphar all featuring in his lineage.
Next in line was Garyvaughan Percy, which sold for 14,000gns. Bred by the Lewis family, this powerful bull is out of the herd’s stock bull Foxhillfarm Manhattan, which was purchased for 35,000gns. Percy’s dam line goes back to Plumtree Deus, also purchased by the Garryvaughan herd for 35,000gns.
Procter’s Farm secured a top price of 12,000gns for Procter’s Paladru. This October 2019-born bull was from the first batch of sons sold from previous Carlisle champion and 65,000gns heavy hitter Aultside Meanmachine. Out of the homebred dam Procter’s Gwen, her pedigree features Haltcliffe DJ and the first 100,000gns bull Haltcliffe Vermont.
Three at 10,000gns
The 10,000gns price tag was hit on three separate occasions. First at the money was the June 2019-born bull Ronick Puppet. Bred by the well-known Dick family, Puppet is a son of the herd’s 45,000gns herd sire Ampertaine Jamboree.
Matching the money was Kinniside Pluto from Marrs and son. Sired by Sympa son Dylans Irnbru, he goes back on a homebred dam by Bolide. Full brothers to this cross have sold for up to 9,000gns previously.
Last to hit 10,000gns was Northern Ireland-bred bull Trueman Piccolo. Bred by the Savage family, Piccolo is one of the first son to be sold from the 20,000gns Telfers Munster, owned in partnership with the Ardlea and Elite pedigree herd in Co Laois. Out of the highly successful breeder Trueman Foxtrot, Piccolo is a full-sister to Trueman Pixie, which sold for 17,100gns at only 11 months of age.
Bull figures
A total of 69 bulls sold on the day to average £8,118. This is up nearly £1,500 on the year but a smaller entry meant that 21 fewer bulls were sold.
This reduction in entries allowed for heifers to be offered for sale also. In total, 50 heifers were catalogued, with 38 trading on the day to an average of £3,164.
Taking the top three prices in the heifer section was Normal Farming Company. Top of the lot was a bid of 6,000gns for Norman Pattern.
This March 2019-born heifer is homebred on both sides, with Plumtree Fantastic and Whinfellpark Lago featuring in the back breeding.
Hitting 5,000gns was Norman Popcandy. This May 2019-born heifer goes back to Powerful Irish, with Claragh Franco featuring on the maternal line.
The third top female price was Norman Pam, which sold for 4,500gns. This August 2019-born heifer is again homebred on both sides, with the aforementioned Plumtree Fantastic and Claragh Franco in the lineage.
