It was a busy day in the pedigree world on Saturday, with the Simmental society hosting its premier sale in Roscommon while the Charolais premier was held in Elphin.

Numbers at the Simmental sale were back heavily on what was catalogued, with only 29 bulls and 15 heifers going through the sales ring. Of these, 19 bulls and 11 heifers met trade.

Bulls had an impressive average of just shy of €4,000, helped greatly by sale-topper Lissadell Mr Mullarkey VIP, which sold for €12,500. This bull was bred by Kieran and Paul Mullarkey, Co Sligo, and was secured by Newton House Farm in the UK. Sired by Dermotstown Delboy, the 12-month-old bull is out of Corbally Eires VIP who also bred AI bull Lissadell Jackpot VIP and heifers to €8,000.
