Gun Plot

This documentary podcast from RTÉ is based on the Arms Crisis of the 1970s, featuring audio recordings from an Irish court. A complex situation to explain, the Arms Crisis is examined through interviews, audio recordings and voice overs. The crisis saw Neil Blaney and Charles Haughey sacked as Government ministers for their alleged involvement in smuggling arms. Gun Plot scratches beneath the surface and looks at the fallout for all involved, including Captain James Kelly, an army officer entangled in the situation.

The One Calm Voice Podcast

This podcast is from our very own contributor, Catherine Callaghan. Catherine is a mindfulness expert. This podcast, in a very soothing and relaxing manner, offers simple and practical ways to enhance your life. There are episodes dealing with a variety of topics, from low mood to anxiety, people pushing your buttons and feeling overwhelmed. Episode two is a sleep aid and is very useful. Overall, it’s a great listen to bring a little bit of calm to your life.

The 2 Johnnies Podcast

The 2 Johnnies Podcast is very well known. It’s now exclusively available on Spotify and is one of the most popular podcasts in the country. In fact, this week’s episode featured a cameo appearance from Irish Country Living! That’s right, in discussing older people and love, they read out snippets from our 'Getting in Touch' page. In general, the podcast is light hearted and fun. Each week, there is correspondence from listeners and a discussion, Noel’s news and Maura’s mystery topic. A very good listen if you’re looking for a pick-me-up.

A Perfect Blend Podcast

This one is for all the whiskey lovers out there, and indeed, all the farmers interested in hearing about the elements that work alongside their barley to make some of Ireland’s finest whiskeys. The first episode focuses the ancient craft of coopering (barrel making). Cooper Killian O’Mahony, who was previously featured in Irish Country Living, is interviewed. Produced and hosted by radio producer Julien Clancy, the rest of the four-part miniseries looks at copper pot stills, forestry and storytelling. This is a good choice for anyone interested in craft, tradition or distilling.
