The Irish Aberdeen-Angus Association and Angus Beef Ireland will again be joining forces for this year’s National Ploughing Championships in Co Laois.

The two will be putting on a display of the very best pedigree and commercial Aberdeen Angus cattle in the country in what is the largest livestock stand at this year’s Ploughing.

Several of the major championship winners from the pedigree show circuit will be on display over the three days, alongside a selection of very high-end Aberdeen Angus-sired crossbred stock.

Eustace Burke, President of the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association, along with many of the society officers, will be in attendance throughout the event to meet and chat with the membership.

Angus Beef Ireland will be joined by its main processors with procurement agents from these leading factories on hand to answer any questions you may have and to discuss Angus requirements and farmer opportunities for the coming months.

Prize

There will be a €1,000 prize for the winner of the guess-the-weight competition, which will again see all proceeds go to the Irish Pilgrimage Trust.

New for this year in the Angus Beef Ireland section is the ‘Space for Nature’ photo competition, which is open to members of the Angus Beef Ireland producer group and their families.

The aim is to allow attendees to see photos which show diversity and an abundance of nature present on their producer group member farms. Entry and competition details are available on angusbeef.ie.

In keeping with previous years, a mobile catering unit serving premium Irish Aberdeen Angus beef will once again be in operation adjacent to the stand.

The world-renowned Aberdeen Angus steak burgers are always a runaway success each year with lines of patrons sampling delicious Aberdeen Angus beef daily.

The National Ploughing Championships will be the first major event for a very busy few weeks for the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association.

Extravaganza

Just two weeks after the Ploughing, the association will be hosting its much anticipated Irish Aberdeen Angus autumn extravaganza, which is set for Thurles Mart on the weekend of 7 and 8 October.

This well-supported event will feature the association’s premier sale on Saturday which will have over 50 of the country’s best pre-selected Aberdeen Angus stock on offer.

The standard of cattle for this year’s sale has exceeded that of last year’s record-breaking sale

On the Sunday, all eyes turn to the national calf show which boasts a massive prize fund of €10,000.

Speaking ahead of the autumn calendar, breed secretary Shane Murphy said: “We are truly looking forward to meeting everyone again at this year’s National Ploughing Championships. This starts a jam-packed few weeks for the association as we eagerly prepare for the autumn extravaganza also.

“The standard of cattle for this year’s sale has exceeded that of last year’s record-breaking sale and no doubt the calf show with its substantial prize fund will attract the best young stock in the country.”
