Gardaí have advised those attending the National Ploughing Championships this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Screggan, Tullamore, to ignore satnav and map-type applications closer to the event.
It is essential that drivers don't use these navigation tools near the Ploughing site, gardaí said, as they may not have the up-to-date information on the specific traffic diversions.
A significant policing operation in place for the Ploughing and, with more than 80,000 people expected to attend the event each day, a traffic management and parking plan have been put in place as part of this.
Gardaí said the assistance of all road users is required to allow traffic to move freely to and from the event during the Ploughing.
Road closures
Gardaí are urging road users not attending the Ploughing to avoid the N52 between Tullamore and Birr.
Road users are also asked to avoid all approach roads to Mucklagh village and the event site at Screggan, Tullamore, Co Offaly, from 6am on Tuesday 16 September to 8pm Thursday 18 September.
Over the course of the Ploughing Match people are asked to listen to and comply with any direction by an Garda Síochána or stewards.
Map
Ploughing attendees are asked to view the traffic management plan in advance and take the correct route to take depending on where they are travelling from.
The plan identifies various routes that attendees should use depending on where their journey commences and a written description of their colour-coordinated route and parking zones.
An interactive traffic parking app is available here.
A further breakdown of all colour coordinated travel routes is available here.
