Ireland remains on track for a record milk intake in 2025 with the latest figures for November released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
Milk intake by processors and co-ops in Ireland was up over 5% from January to November last year when compared with the same period in 2024, according to the CSO.
In the first 11 months of last year, milk intake was estimated at 8.58bn litres. With December figures yet to be released, intake for the month would need to be above 240m litres to exceed the 2022 record of 8.82bn litres.
The intake for last December was 267m litres. However, it is possible dropping milk prices into the last month of 2025 could affect this figure.
From January to November 2025, there was a rise of 419m litres when compared with the same period the previous year.
When compared with the same period in 2023, milk intake is up 4% or 326m litres for the first 11 months of year.
November
Looking at the month of November, in 2025 milk intake decreased by 2.3% or almost 12m litres when compared with the same month in 2024.
Milk intake for November 2025 stands at 500m litres. This is up some 31% or 118.4m litres when compared with the same month in 2023.
Fat content for November 2025 was 5.12%, up from 4.99% in November 2024. Protein content also increased from 3.98% to 4.03% in the 12 months to November 2025.
Butter production increased slightly from 17,800t in November 2024 to 18,000t in November 2025, up 200t.
Skimmed milk powder production rose from 7,500t in November 2024 to 9,500t in November 2025, up 2,000t.
