Lisavaird Co-Op has temporarily suspended white diesel sales at three of its branches in Cork to prioritise fuel supply for essential services at the co-op.

Sales of white diesel at its Lisavaird, Ballycummer, and Manch locations have been suspended.

“This measure is being introduced to prioritise animal welfare across our supplier base by ensuring continuity of essential services, including milk collection and animal feed deliveries,” the co-op said.

“The suspension will remain in place until normal deliveries of vehicle fuels resume. Petrol and green diesel are unaffected currently,” it added.

It comes as fuel price protests entered a third day on Thursday, with queues at forecourts around the country as people attempted to fill tanks with petrol and diesel.

Ports in Galway and Foynes remain blockaded, with access to the Whitegate oil refinery in Cork also blocked off.

Gardaí have told protesters to cease their blockades or “face the full rigours of the law”.

The Irish Grain and Feed Association (IGFA) has said that feed production has been seriously hampered by the ongoing blockades at the ports.

Feed mills have had to cut back production on Thursday, as concentrate ingredients are stuck on the port side of these blockades, it said.

The blocking of transit routes out of ports such as Foynes and Ringaskiddy has “created huge problems for the animal feed sector”, the IGFA added.
