The Kerry TD was “attacked by a cow after calving” on his farm near Kilgarvan, Co Kerry, on Sunday night.

The TD’s nephew and son of TD Danny Healy-Rae, Johnny, told the Irish Farmers Journal “he’s alright this morning but he’s sore. He was attacked by a cow after calving.

“Luckily there were two other people with him in the shed, his son Kevin and a neighbour, who pulled him out of harm’s way.”

The incident happened around 8.30pm last night after Michael travelled back from Dublin.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he is said to have “no major injuries.”

In a statement, his son Jackie Junior said: "My father is recovering well at present" and is being kept in for tests and observation.
