I Farm: "A mixed operation of both sheep and horses. I run the home farm with the help of my parents Liam and Margaret. My brothers Victor and Glen help out whenever they get a chance. I had originally planned to be an amateur Jockey but, shortly after receiving my Qualified Riders Licence in 2001, I received a serious injury and I was out of action for a long time. I returned to studies and I now hold a Diploma in Equine Science from Oxford College.

This Week: "I will be weaning the foals and sorting the ewes for mating. The foals are born in March/April and are weaned at around five or six months in order to get them ready for the sales at the end of the year. The ewes will be put to the rams early next week. The ewes will lamb down outside in February if the weather is agreeable.

Stud farm: "Over three years ago I took over the management of my parents stud farm, where we stand a top National Hunt Sadler’s Wells stallion called "Curtain Time" and have a select band of Flat and National Hunt broodmares. I also manage the foaling unit and the pre-sales operation. We have 15 mares foal each year. The spring time on the farm is hectic with mares foaling and ewes lambing.

Sheep: "My own enterprise is the sheep on the farm. At the beginning we were using the sheep to clean up after the horses. I always had an interest in sheep and loved the more unusual breeds. I currently run 70 pedigree registered North Country Cheviot ewes and a small flock of 20 Scottish Blackface horned ewes, which we use for training the dogs. The main emphasis of the operation is to produce high quality ram lambs that satisfy breeders. Rams that are not suitable for breeding go to the mart. We keep the high quality ewe lambs for replacements.

Shows: "We show our sheep at all the major shows. Last weekend I had great success at Ballyvourney show in Co Cork, where I had a supreme champion ram and a reserve champion ewe.

Border Collies: "I also breed and pre-train some Border Collie dogs. Most of them end up in other countries. We have three brood bitches. I only breed from the top trial dog bloodlines and I have a son of Aled Owen's World Champion "Bob" and also a son of World Champion "Becca", who is now retired. It is great to see the intelligence of the young dogs. Several champions were started off here, including Japan's Nursery Champion and a Czech-Republic champion.

Leisure: "My leisure time is spent with a camera, as I love photography and going to agricultural shows. I do photo albums for Sheep Societies and also video footage and DVD's from major shows and sales.

Quotable Quote: "The hours are long and the returns are small on a farm but I would not change now."
