The 27th annual Biofach event will take place in Nuremberg this week, bringing together over 2,000 exhibitors and over 44,000 trade visitors from 130 countries under the patronage of IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements).

The German organic market, valued at over €7.5bn, is the primary market for organic food in Europe.

Bord Bia and ten Irish organic food companies are travelling to Germany on Wednesday to showcase Irish organic food and to develop new export opportunities.

The event will also provide Bord Bia with the opportunity to highlight its Origin Green sustainability programme.

"Bord Bia has actively promoted Ireland’s presence at BioFach through direct buyer canvassing and by highlighting the profiles of visiting companies. It is expected that 350 international buyers will visit the Ireland-Origin Green stand," Bord Bia said.

The participating Irish companies are also supported by the Department of Agriculture under the 2016 Organic Market Development Plan.

Irish Country Meats, Slaney Food International, The Little Milk Company and Good Herdsmen Ltd are just some of the Irish companies attending the event.
