I see that the Bank of England has resisted pressure from vegan lobby groups to stop using tallow in its new £5, £10 and £20 notes.

The notes are made mainly from plastic, but include trace amounts of the animal byproduct. More than 3,550 people responded to a consultation on the notes, of which 88% were against the use of animal-derived substances.

The suggested cost of switching from tallow to palm oil in the notes would have been £16.5m (€18.2m) over the next 10 years.
