Letter re EIF levy charged as part of Boortmalt contract
"Even growers who are not IFA members are forced to hand over a contribution to an organisation that they are not members of and do not wish to support." - Malting Barley Grower
DEAR SIR: As a malting barley contract holder with Boortmalt, I’m contacting you to inform you that there is nothing “optional” about the EIF levy of €0.39c per tonne deducted from my Boortmalt payment. It is so far removed from optional as to be actually written into the contract, thus meaning that even growers who are not IFA members are forced to hand over a contribution to an organisation that they are not members of and do not wish to support. Two years ago many farmers submitted requests to IFA to have these monies returned, to no avail.
