Tinahely Agricultural Show is back again this year on the August bank holiday Monday, where farm-produced food will take centre stage.

The food from our farms marquee, run by the IFA Wicklow farm family committee, will have a large number of exhibitors from the county and its surrounding hinterlands.

“If you haven’t had your breakfast before you come, you can definitely go around the tent and get it,” co-ordinator Florence Dagge told the Irish Farmers Journal.

As always, there will be a great variety of gourmet foods, which vary from organic hot foods to artisan cheeses, sauces, oils and sweet treats available in the marquee. The exhibitors will be doing tastings and giving advice on food preparation.

“It’s a well-established part of the Tinahely show,” Wicklow IFA chair Chris Hill said, adding that the marquee has been running for over 30 years now.

“In the current food environment, there’s a huge swing towards food air miles and all that, so it’s good to see this happening at a very local level.”

The stalls in the marquee will be judged on the day of the show (7 August) and two cups will be presented for the overall first place and the best Wicklow exhibit.

The IFA is also running a farm safety photo competition. It will be a series of pictures of farming situations in which people have to spot the problems that need correcting. The four prizes are a €100 cheque, a €100 voucher, a €50 voucher and a €40 cheque.
