Club PRO Mairead Allen said the talk has received great interest from Macra members and the general public, with a high turnout expected tonight.

"We want to stamp out the stigma and show people it's okay to talk about depression," she said. "Two of our members are coming forward to talk publicly about their own experiences. I hope that their stories will help more people to speak out.

"Another member spoke to me privately about her own problems with mental health. She seemed to have everything going for her, but depression just hit her," added Mairead. "Her experience shows that it can affect anyone."

The talk is being held in conjunction with Headstrong, an organisation supporting young people's mental health. A member of the group will also be speaking tonight.

Mitchelstown Macra is following the talks with more events aimed improving mental health and fostering friendships in the community.

The talk will take place at the Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown, Co Cork, on Monday. It starts at 8pm and admission is free.
