Seemingly fed up with dull views of Donnybrook, Dublin 4, a host of RTÉ presenters, reporters and celebrity guests will descend on the farm of Westmeath sheep farmer John Fagan this coming week in the hopes of finding some much-needed rest and relaxation.

The reason for this invasion of the Midland native’s farm is for RTÉ One’s latest programme idea – a week-long show broadcast live from a purpose-built studio in the midst of John Fagan’s sheep farm located on the shores of the scenic Derravaragh Lake.

Big Week on the Farm will be broadcast from 7pm for five nights starting this Monday 4 April and will be presented by Ella McSweeney and Áine Lawlor in front of a live audience. The show will also feature some celebrity guests including Roz Purcell, Anna Geary and Nathan Carter.

According to RTÉ, the aim of the show is to “chart the life cycle of farm animals” and provide the nation with real-time access to the captivating world of Ireland¹s farming countryside.

The presenters will be hoping to see some live lambing each night on John Fagan’s farm as he oversees the birth or about 120 lambs this spring. As well as broadcasting from Fagan’s farm, the show will provide intimate insights into the hectic happenings on other farms too, including a pig farm in Kerry, a high-tech tillage farm in Carlow and a fish-farm in Donegal.

All in all, location presenters Darragh McCullough and Helen Carroll will broadcast live from ten different farms across the country over the course of the week. Evelyn Cusack, Jean Byrne, Siobhan Ryan and Gerry Murphy will also present the evening weather forecast live from Fagan’s farm every night.
