A Fodder Aid Scheme was also introduced to replace damaged fodder. The scheme compensated farmers for direct replacement costs in instances where genuine damage to silage, hay, concentrates or straw had been caused by the flooding.

New scheme to relocate farmers

Meanwhile, the Minister revealed details of a new one-off targeted scheme that will relocate farmers who were worst affected by flooding and have no alternative solutions.

The Voluntary Homeowners Relocation Scheme will be brought to Government shortly by the Minister for State with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works and Flood Relief.

During this scheme, work will be carried out on farmyard buildings to determine if any alternative remedial works can be undertaken to protect those at risk.

This work is being carried out to determine if any future voluntary farm building relocation scheme would be feasible.
