Last Saturday’s special breeding ewe sale saw an excellent entry of over 1,000 sheep on offer. The trade was very strong, with plenty of farmer buyers active for all good-quality ewes and ewe hoggets. The best demand in ewes was for first and second crops, with third- and fourth-crop ewes met with lesser prices of €100 to €120/head. Prices for first- and second-crop ewes ranged from €131/head to €170/head. Breeding hoggets were met with strong demand and prices ranged from €145 at the bottom of the market to €212/head at the top of the market. Prices ranged mainly from €150 to €160/head for good-quality types.
