Russia is set to continue to impose the import ban on food products from the EU until the middle of January 2016. The ban is in response to an EU decision to maintain sanctions over Russian activity in Ukraine.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at the first Food Security Forum in Rostov-on-Don that “they still do not want to return to our market and do not plan to” and that “we are not going to beg”.

The Ulster Farmers’ Union has warned that this will mean continued poor prices for major commodities for farmers. UFU president Ian Marshall said: “It is disappointing that farmers and the wider agri-food industry continue to be drawn into this global dispute.”
