After obtaining approval for its tags last month, the supplier has got the green light for its IT system and is now officially listed among Department-approved suppliers alongside Mullinahone Co-op, which was until now the only company licensed to sell the tags.

Flexo range from Caisley

Cormac Tagging was already selling tags for sheep, goats and pigs. It can now offer the Flexo range of cattle tags made by British manufacturer Caisley.

Cormac Tagging previously told the Irish Farmers Journal that it would sell its standard tag set of one conventional and one tissue tag at €2.68 including VAT and including the 38c contribution to the ICBF. This compares with €2.90 including VAT and ICBF levy for a set of Allflex conventional and BVD tags from Mullinahone.

Cormac Tagging also said it would give a free applicator with every order for 50 tag sets and free replacement tags if needed.

A spokesperson for the company told the Irish Farmers Journal that Cormac Tagging was delighted to get final approval and started processing orders on Monday evening. It has plans in place to operate at high output during the peak order period and is welcoming orders from interested farmers.

A third supplier, Datamars, has received conditional approval from the Department, but needs to make a number of improvements before it can start selling tags.
