The top five mistakes farmers are making when they’re filling out their Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) applications have been revealed by the Department of Agriculture.

Farmers have just two weeks left to submit an application to the scheme and all applications next year will have to be made online.

With the push on how to get farmers online over the last number of weeks the Department has been holding one-on-one sessions, assisting farmers with filling out their applications online.

Farmers have been requesting assistance with the following five topics when filling out their application:

  • How to re-include areas in their application which have been cleared of scrub.
  • How to delete rented parcels that are no longer available to them.
  • How to add new parcels.
  • How to include newly afforested areas.
  • How to ensure that they have applied for the ANC scheme.
  • Applications

Some 54,999 Basic Payment Scheme applications have been received to date by the Department of Agriculture.

Of this number, a total of 49,039 online applications and 5,960 paper applications have been made.

Compared with 2016, there are 13,999 more applications completed at the same stage, with the total number of 41,000 applications split into 36,104 online and 4,896 paper.

    GLAS roadblock delaying BPS applications

Meanwhile, the Department has confirmed that about 1,000 GLAS III applications are “currently held for further examination”, in addition to a “limited number of additional cases for which parcel information is under review before the 2017 BPS application can be finalised”.

Those farmers receive a notice online saying: “Please note your GLAS information is currently being updated. This process will be completed shortly and you will be able to access your 2017 application at that stage.”
