Despite giving assurance that the majority of farmers would be paid by the start of February, Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney still has thousands of farmers awaiting payments.

Around 1,500 farmers are awaiting their 2015 Basic Payment Scheme (BPS), with over 2,000 farmers who applied under the National Reserve/Young Farmers Top-up scheme still not processed.

In an interivew with the Irish Farmers Journal in Janaury, Minister Coveney stated that all farmers except for those with the most complex cases will be paid within “two to three weeks” of then.

The Department breakdown of farmers remaining to be paid does shows that 850 farmers applying to the National Reserve are being held up due to lack of information that is required to be returned from the farmers.

Another 700 cases of BPS are held up due to documents required to complete 2015 transfer of entitlements not being returned.

Fewer than 123,000 farmers have been paid their BPS, with 7,200 of the 9,300 farmers who applied to the 2015 National Reserve/Young Farmers scheme now paid.
