Making their mark

Two of Dessie Gibson’s ex-charges made their mark at the National Hunter Show last weekend, when Vantage Point and Formula 1 won the ridden and young stock championships. Jill Day’s big winner, by Nash Me, added the supreme ridden title to his earlier hunter championship win with Robert Walker at the SHB (GB) national show, held at Stafford County Showgrounds. The Ars Vivendi-sired Formula 1 was shown once last year by Gibson as a two-year-old, before being sold before Dublin to his new winning owner Mrs RJ Stevenson.

Sale topper

The Clifden Connemara pony sale was topped by a 128cm jumping pony, Glenford Starlight. Bred and produced by the O’Callaghan family in Athenry, the pony – by Killea Island – fetched the top price of €6,300 and sold to a Northern buyer.

CPD system

Horse Sport Ireland is making the CPD system compulsory for all HSI coaches in 2015/2016. The system will be based on accumulation of credits on an annual basis. A minimum number of credits will be required by a coach wishing to remain active on the HSI coaching register. The CPD year will run from 1 December 2015 until 31 November 2016. However, for the first year of the programme, CPD credits can be included from January 2015 until 31st November 2016. For more details, contact HSI on 045-854-533 or 045-854-512.
