Last Tuesday’s sale at Ardee Mart saw another good entry of stock on offer. The number of animals on offer is expected to increase in the coming weeks.

There was a good entry of weanling bulls on offer, with plenty of farmer buyers for those under 400kg. There were some forward bulls on offer also, but these types were met with slightly easier demand.

Bulls from 300kg to 400kg sold mainly from €2.25/kg to €2.45/kg, with top-quality bulls making over €2.60/kg.

The number of lighter bulls available remains low, but prices are strong. Good-quality bulls from 250kg to 300kg made from €2.50/kg to €2.70/kg.

There was a firm trade for good-quality weanling heifers also. Those from 300kg to 400kg sold mainly from €2.20/kg to €2.40/kg, with better-quality continentals making up to €2.50/kg.

Heavier heifers over 400kg sold from €2.10/kg to €2.30/kg. The trade for cull cows was said to be firm.

Continental feeding cows were met with continued steady demand and prices were said to be firm as a result.

Good-quality continental feeding cows made from €1.40/kg to €1.50/kg, with top-quality fleshed types making up to €1.60/kg or €1.80/kg.
