US President Donald Trump told Irish media in Shannon Airport that he thought Brexit would “work out” for Ireland.

“I think it will work out, there are a lot of good minds thinking about how to do it and it’s going to be just fine,” the president said.

“I think the big thing will be your border and hopefully it will work out. I think it will be just fine and could be very very good for Ireland.”

“But the border will work out.”

When asked about climate change he said that United States had the cleanest air in the world and that it has “gotten better” since he became president.

The president is staying in his hotel in Doonbeg, Co Clare tonight before leaving for Normandy tomorrow.
