IFA rural development chair Michael Biggins is calling on Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed to address the issue of TAMS roll-overs.

Biggins estimates that hundreds of farmers have their applications rolled into successive TAMS tranches because they do not score high enough on the application scheme.

In his role as development chair, he is seeking the approval of all TAMS applications before the scheme closes. He highlighted that only 80% of applications had been approved in the last four tranches.

Applications

Biggins pointed out that 311 applications had been carried over on three successive occasions and said that just €200m of the €395m had been set aside for the scheme.

“This means that there is still €195m to spend between now and the end of 2021/early 2022. In most cases, farmers have to complete work 12 months after approval,” the IFA chair said.
