Fire services in Wicklow dealt with a serious tractor fire over the weekend near Rathdrum.

Fire crews used foam to extinguish the blaze which engulfed a tractor towing a CLAAS baler along the R754 on Saturday evening, 11 June. There was extensive damage to both the tractor and the baler.

No one was injured in the incident.

Tractor and baler fires are more common during summer months with dry material such as straw heightening the risk. \ Wicklow Fire Service

With silage work ongoing and harvests beginning, farmers should take extra caution around tractor and baler fire risks. Faulty or poorly maintained bearings, brakes and electrical connections are among some of the key risk areas.

Fire crews managed to bring the blaze under control using foam but not before the tractor was destroyed. \ Wicklow Fire Service
