The accident occurred on Saturday evening on the victim's farm. Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, a Garda spokesman said that the victim was treated at the scene by emergency services but was pronounced dead a short time later.
“It’s understood the incident occurred shortly after 4pm as the man was removing a hedge trimmer from a tractor,” he said.
A spokesperson from the Health and Safety Authority said that inspectors are due to visit the scene on Monday to carry out an investigation.

This fatality brings the total number of deaths to occur in the agriculture industry in the Republic of Ireland this year so far to 16.
