A Facebook event ‘‘Running Through A Field Of Wheat’’ is garnering attention online after 29,000 people have signed up to run through a wheat field in Norfolk.

The event has taken inspiration from the UK prime minister’s comments in a recent interview where she said the naughtiest thing she had ever done was run through a farmer’s wheat field.

It is to take place on 23 June – the anniversary of the UK’s vote to leave the European Union.

The event page says “come join us for a cheeky frolic [sic] through fields of wheat, the farmers will love it”.

Another 59,000 people have signalled their interest in the event.

Compensation

Not everyone is happy with the event, with several Facebook members commenting about the proposed runs affect on farmers.

“Are you going to compensate the farmer for the loss of the wheat? Sorry but can you do something else that’s not going to destroy the livelihood of someone?” one wrote.

Another said: “How about we get all the farmers and their animals to run through your gardens and prevent you earning your livelihood?

“Do you eat bread, cakes, cereals and eggs? All these things rely on farmers crops, unless you want it all GM and imported from the US and Russia?”

In reply, many have commented back to the people backing the farmers, saying that it is only a joke and not actually happening.
